William Lofthouse (b.1842)

William Lofthouse was born in Boroughbridge in 1842. He is listed in the 1881 census as a photographer living at 4 Grosvenor Cottage, Scarborough. His first child James was born iin Scarborough in c.1865, but it is unknown if he was working as a photographer at this time. In the 1892 directory he is operating from 7 Grosvenor Crescent Back Road. He is listed, still working as a photographer, in the 1902 at 7 Greenfield Road (the same house but the street has been renamed).

He married Jane (b. Sheriff Hutton 1842) and had 7 children all born in Scarborough, James D. (b.1865), Walter (b.1869), Hannah A. (b.1871), Mary J. (b.1873), Margaret E. (b.1875), Ada (b.1879) and Arthur (b.1880). Albert Bennett aged 26 was also living at the same address.
