Thomas Palmer Craven (1819 - >1881)

Thomas Craven came to Scarborough from his home in Market Weighton in about 1819. It is unknown what he did in Scarborough until 1854 when he advertised his Photographic Gallery where he produced Daguerreotype portraits. These were priced from 6s/6d. He advertised again in the 1855 directory describing himself as a ‘painter, gilder and photographic artist’, which may suggest what he had done for the 17 years before turning to photography. By 1881 he was living in Hull and describing himself on the census as a painter.

Some accounts suggest that his name was Thomas Plummer Craven.
