Taney and Company
George B. Taney had established his photography business in Timberhill, Norwich by about 1864. Initially he was the manager of the Eastern Counties Photographic Copying Company which had been established in 1857 and was based in Opie Street in Norwich. By 1877 he was describing it at Taney and Co. It is unknown when and how often they operated from from Foreshore Road in Scarborough, it is possible that it was only for one season. However there were more than one design for the backs of the Carte de Visites so it maybe that they returned for an other year. Taney’s business was in decline by about 1901 and he had ceased trading as a photographer by 1905. At this time he bought Victoria Hall in Norwich’s St Stephens Street and converted it into a cinema, but was to sell it soon after due to ill health.
