Patrick Wybrant (1814-1894)

Patrick Wybrant was born in Rothdrum, County Wicklow, Ireland in 1814. During the late 1840s he is living in York and visiting Scarborough during the summer season, at this time his main business is as a silhouette artist and miniature and portrait painter. In 1850 one advert claims that it is his third season in Scarborough. In 1852 it is thought that, with his wife and daughter Ann, he went to the United States of America. He returned to England in 1855 or 1856. In 1857 he was listed as an artist in Hull before settling in Scarborough the following year. From this point onwards he is mainly in Scarborough but is occasional listed elsewhere, Stockton on Tees (1861), Wetherby (1891) and Knaresborough where he died on 5/6th December 1894. Throughout his life he was considered to be an artist but also had a photographic business in Scarborough.

His parents were James Wybrant and Sarah Doyle. he was one of four children, his siblings being Ann, Jane Francis and Andrew. He was married to Jane (b.1830-16 July 1885) and had four children - Ann (b.1852 in Scarborough), William, Andrew and Mary. There is some inconsistency concerning his date of birth. The date 1814 is the one on his gravestone in Scarborough, but elsewhere it is listed as 1816 and 1821.
