North of England Photographic Company

Little is known about this company, but it is thought that they were operating at some point in the 1860s - 1870s. Carte de Visites list the “Celebrated Artist Mr I.(J?)B. Cartlidge”

The Tadcaster Post carried a short post in June 1863 stating that the North of England Photographic Studio, in North Street, Wetherby is going to close. It is not known if this is the same company. There is a J. B. Cartlidge who is listed as a photographer in Guisborough, and another listed as artist at T. Harrison’s North British Photographic Establishment in Hanover Street, Edinburgh (one carte de visite of this company suggests that Cartlidge was formerly a partner and principal artist of the Edinburgh Photo Company). There is also a carte de visite which lists J. B. Cartlidge at the Edinburgh Photographic Gallery, 1 Hanover Street, Edinburgh. Again we are unsure if this is the same person.
