Jordan Lambert Lilley (b.1867)
Jordan Lambert Lilley was born in Scarborough in 1867. He listed as a photographer in the 1891 census. He is listed as a photographer in the 1892 directory of Scarborough and Filey with a studio in Rothbury Street. by 1901 he is in North Marine Road and is declared bankrupt at that address in 1908.
Lambert’s parents were George (b.1835, Scarborough) and Mary (b.1835), who were living at 12 Alma Street, Scarborough in 1861. He was one of a large family all born in Scarborough except George - George Lemming (b.1855, Helmsley), Margaret Ann (b.1856), Thomas Lambert (1858-1935), William (b.1858/9), Sarah (b.1860), Eliza Jane (b.1861), Mary Alice (b.1865), Gordon L. (b.1868) and Alfred E. (b.1876). Jordan married Minnie Elizabeth Coverley in 1895 she died in 1909 after they had had two children, Eric Lambert (b.1898) and Peter W. (b.1904). After Minnie died Jordan married Ellen Ward (1887-1928) in 1914. They had two children, Donald J. (b.1920) and Joan (b.1921). Jordan and Ellen are buried together in Dean Road Cemetery.
One of Jordan’s brothers, Thomas Lambert Lilley also became a photographer. Thomas moved to Bournemouth by 1881 when he was lodging at 6 Crowther Terrace, Epper Terrace Road. He married Alice Maud Tall from Batley in Hampshire in 1886 and set up a studio at 2 Leicester Villas, Christchurch Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth. They had three children Percy L. (b.1889), Vernon L. (b.1890) and Hilda May (b.1892). They moved to 152 Northam Road, Southampton where he died in 1935 aged 80. Another brother William became a carver and gilder, living at 47 Norwood Street, Scarborough in 1881 and 17 Victoria Road from 1889.
