John Miers

John Miers had a studio ‘near the parish church’ on Castle Road. He appears in Scarborough directories for 1867 and 1872. Some of his photograph backs also advertise his business as a jet worker. In 1885 Miers was declared bankrupt, the note in the Yorkshire Gazette gives his occupation as Grocer (Provisions Dealer) and Photographer with premises on Hoxton Road, Scarborough. His liabilities were declared at £377. 9s. 7d. with assets of £204. 11s. 10d. The following year the Commercial Gazette was reporting that Miers was still in business and reporting a notice of dividends of 3s 6d, presumably to his creditors.

The Richmond and Ripon Chronicle reported the marriage of Miers to Mis Ester Jane Milow at the Jubilee Chapel, Scarborough on June 17 1868.
