PHOTOGRAPHY

Of all our gifts, ‘twill be confess’d,

A LIFE-LIKE PORTRAIT is the best:

If every feature is defined -

Artistic skill with truth combined.

Such TREASURES oft, in days of old,

Cost precious time and countless gold;

Nor were the COSTLY gems too dear,

If true RESEMBLANCE did appear.

But mark the strides of modern science!

Which sets old masters at defiance!

For half-a-crown you may obtain

A faithful likeness, neat and plain.

But if you wish one to present,

Then pay a Crown - you’ll not repent.

The Artist’s skill (JOHN HALL’s his name,)

Will you delight - you’ll spread his fame.

He won’t detain you - just begin it -

All is over in a minute!

Then let me you invite to call,

And get your portrait from JOHN HALL.

JOHN HALL’s great fame all Scarbro’ fills,

Proprietor of the TOOTH-ACHE PILLS.

It is possible that John’s middle name began with an H. His brother George may have worked with him.
